Medical Massage?

A medical patient will present with a doctor’s prescription as well as symptoms.  A client may present without a prescription.

Are you a medical patient/client or a therapeutic client seeking relaxation massage?

If you have a medical condition from a Motor Vehicle or any other accident that your doctor thinks will be helped by massage, bring Lisa a prescription from your doctor and if she accepts you for treatment with the prescription then Lisa will follow your doctor’s plan for your care and bill either your lawyer, or your insurance company for the medical massage treatments at current patient rates which are billed in 15 minute units. (Medical massage and medical massage billing requires more training than client massage; i.e. more paperwork, better communication skills for working with doctors, lawyers, etc. and may require court time, being treated as a healthcare professional by insurance companies, time spent waiting for reimbursement and more.)

Utilizing her training as a Medical Massage Therapist Lisa focuses on treating injury, illness, and stress through the use of manual techniques  that improve circulation, enhance muscular relaxation, relieve pain, reduce stress, enhance immune function, or promote health and well being..

Outcome-based massage is specific to a diagnosis provided by a referring physician. Medical Massage Therapists require a physician's prescription, specific diagnosis and treatment code when treating patients. (Of course no prescription is necessary when you come to us as a massage client.)

Massage therapists practicing medical massage have advanced training in evaluation and treatment of movement and structure of the musculoskeletal system, training in medical documentation and terminology, advanced communication skills, and advanced training in pathologies and protocols for medical based treatment.

Medical massage can address such conditions as sciatica (presenting as piriformis syndrome and/or sciatic nerve neuralgia), carpal tunnel syndrome, tennis & golfer’s elbow (lateral & medial epicondylitis), essential hypertension, plantar fasciitis, shoulder impingement, thoracic outlet syndrome, and other connective tissue problems.

When a patient comes into the clinic the diagnostic code the doctor presented with the prescription does not specify the degree and phase of injury, nor does it specify the degree and location of the hyper-mobility or hypo-mobility so a comprehensive evaluation with our therapist will be necessary.

Evaluation ensures the patient receives treatment techniques that are correct and appropriate for the phase and stage of healing that the patient is in..

Note: Some persons presenting with a prescription may be asked by the therapist to be treated as a client rather than as a patient if the therapist feels that their needs would be better met by doing so.

In such a case the prescription will be filed and care will be based on conversation between the client and the therapist. You will be asked to sign  a Release of Responsibility form and we will communicate only with you and we would not communicate to your doctor, insurance company, or lawyer about you, your treatment, billing, etc., but only with you., our client.

Dr. West with Lisa.  ”Thumbs up!”
